PRE-PRODUCTION This step in music production is crucial for the quality of the music (”in front of the microphone”). By involving a music producer prior to any recordings, the song structure, the arrangement and the accuracy and confidence of playing can be improved significantly. The band will be at their best in the actual recording phase. Pre-production usually reduces the required tracking and mixing times. Think of it as a hard-work band rehearsal. At this point the addition of external musicians or instruments can be considered and integrated into the project. STUDIO HÖLL also provides a composing service: songs and lyrics that fit like a glove - made just for you.  RECORDING Recording (tracking) can be done for bands, single artists and also narrators. A full band can be tracked using either of two approaches: Band-at-Once or overdubbing. Band-at-Once …means that all musicians will play their parts together live. This could comprise all layers of a song, or just the basic elements like drums, base, guitars and some guide vocals. Later on, lead vocals, solos and background vocals can be added. This procedure might only be possible with well rehearsed bands. Overdubbing: …means that every musician records their instrument/voice independently while monitoring the previously recorded music. The sound will be more controlled, but might lack some groove and live feeling. STUDIO HÖLL usually does not provide instruments - if you can, bring your own favorite gear, or let us know beforehand if we can rent some for you.  EDITING Editing of single tracks or track groups, depending on need: take management, cuts, comping, fades, time and phase alignment, pitch tuning. Externally recorded music can be improved using restoration tools (removing clicks, hiss and hum, adding brilliance etc.).  MIX Balancing of the recorded tracks to obtain a coherent picture of the music. This stage of music production utilizes the classic tools of equalization, compression, reverb and other effects. The Control Room is optimized for stereo reproduction. Presently surround mixes cannot be offered. We love to mix your material that has been recorded elsewhere. Gain a fresh perspective with STUDIO HÖLL.  MASTERING The recording studio is not specifically dedicated to mastering. If necessary, though, very good results can be (and have been) achieved. This last step in music production attends to the stereo sum of the mix: EQ to compensate for differences among the finished mixes, but also to reference songs. Other tools will include compression, limiters and analogue saturation to achieve bounce, loudness and density. At STUDIO HÖLL, musical dynamics are deemed more important than sheer loudness.  PRICES Fair proposals will be made depending on the complexity of the production. Please get in touch early on.
